On May 17, 628. Two fishermen brothers found a statue
named
Bodhisattva
Kannon in Sumida River,
and the rich land lord heard this story and ask them to join Buddhism. These
three people move the statue in a small temple (Senso-ji), and a lot of people who
lived around the area come to worship it, and that’s the original story about Sanja
Matsuri.

Now they have the festival every 3rd Friday to
Sunday of May, three mikoshi will be carried by man and circling the Asakusa
area for three days, people will shake them really hard to feel more about
God’s spirit, also with special dancing and music to pray for bumper harvest.
The Sanja Matsuri attracts 1.5 million tourist every year.

Asakusa area is always a good sight-seeing place, not
only with those small shops for traditional souvenir but also with food and
desert, you can always find something you like. Melissa and I went there for
the festival, and saw many people wore the traditional clothes to join, and
they even have the kid’s mikoshi, that’s really cute and interesting. However
both Melissa and I have shift this day, so we couldn’t join the last ceremony
of the festival, but it was still a very good day!

kids’ version is super cute!!
