If you visit Tokyo, you should definitely go to Ryōgoku Kokugikan (Ryogoku Sumo Hall). It is mainly used for sumo wrestling tournaments and hosts three big honbasho in January, May and in September.

I went to the May event, to watch Sumo for the first time.
The main fights start in the after noon, so you can easily go there in the morning to get your tickets and safe good seats.

The rules where easy to understand, also for non-japanese speaker it’s really fun to watch!

First the Wrestler start with some traditional moves to greet each other and show their respect.

Then the fight starts and they try to get their rival either out of the ring or at least to touch the ground somehow.

So give it a try and enjoy japanese traditional sumo fights!~
