Tori, which means ‘rooster’, is one of the
Chinese zodiacs. Tori no Ichi is always held at Ootori jinja(shrines) around
Japan on the day of rooster
ToriNoHi)in November. This annual event is the first celebration for
welcoming New Year and has continued to today since the Edo period(1603~1867).

Many people come to Jinja to pray for a
good fortune, health and good business.

According to the calendar, there are 3 days
of “tori nohi” this year. I am glad that I got the chance to join this
fantastic event on the last days of Tori no Ichi。

Kumade ‘Bamboo Rake for good luck’

There are more than 100 stores in the fair
to sail the Kumade.

You can only buy this lucky charm on the
day of rooster. So many people come here to find their good fortunes.

It is said that if you want to keep luck
with you, you have to change to a bigger kumade year by year. The bigger the
Kumade , the more expensive it is. So my Japanese friend said, you can tell
that this person is rich or not by seeing how big the Kumade he has!
